Northern Suns, Golden Storms
12th March - 3rd April, 2004
nca - nichido contemporary art is delighted to present the solo exhibition of British artist, Garry Fabian Miller. This exhibition will bring together his most recent series of Northern Suns, Golden Storms and Golden Lines, which came out after his first solo show held at Tokyo Design Center in October 2002.
Throughout his searching of a pure light, Garry Fabian Miller finally cleared the complex technique and media and pursued the simplest way to extract the light. Since 1985, he has worked without camera or film, the first principles of photography to explore the alchemical action of light and chemicals on paper. The works are consistently quiet and looked like emitting light from the paper itself.
The series of Golden Storms and Golden Line are landscape-like visions which have the horizontal line evokes the sand of memory lies thick on the ground quietly or flutters down with the light in the darkness. Developed form the last series of "Burning", Northern Suns express the sun, which are the sun burning silently and heavily in everyone's heart rather than burning furiously.
A life is made by the accumulation of light entering the eyes and forming the mind. The mind grows through the active stimulation of daily exposure to the seen world, and the nighttime darkness when the eyes close. It needs both the active period of exposure and the passive period of absorption, balance is found in the light and the dark, the visible and the invisible.
